Job summary

Illinois School District U46 is seeking a Middle School Experience Teacher for 6th grade summer programming across Canton MS, Eastview MS, Hawk Hollow MS, Legacy MS, and Tefft MS. The role focuses on safe, engaging, culturally relevant learning and building strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and an Illinois PEL with appropriate endorsement; teaching experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related subject from a regionally accredited university.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with any type of teaching endorsement, School Counselor, Librarian (Library Info Specialist or Media), or School Social Worker endorsement required.
  • Teaching experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.

  • Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
  • Implements current district curriculum and content that is grade level appropriate.
  • Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes clear objectives/targets for all lessons, units and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
  • Implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
  • Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
  • Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.

Student School Day: 8 am to 12 noon

Summer Experiences Rate: $46.20 (with TRS)

Function / Position Summary

To build strong relationships and provide high quality, culturally relevant educational experiences during the summer for students who will be attending middle school during the upcoming school year. The teacher is responsible for creating a safe, intellectually challenging learning environment in which each student is actively engaged in meaningful activities. The teacher uses knowledge of adolescent development and knowledge of the content area in educating a diverse student population. In addition, the teacher models learning as a life‑long process by collaborating with students, parents, colleagues, and community.

Physical Demands

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
