Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a temporary long-term substitute teacher to cover for a class from August 17, 2026, through September 30, 2026. The role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field and a valid Colorado teaching license (or application receipt for 90 days).

The substitute will deliver standards-based lessons, monitor student behavior, and document progress using district tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required.
  • Colorado teaching license required or acceptable application receipt for 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state/local requirements.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning styles.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate progress; reports grades using District software.
  • Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

TEMPORARY: AUGUST 17, 2026 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2026

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

What You\'ll Do

What You\'ll Need

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
