Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute to teach the district-approved curriculum in the absence of the classroom teacher for an extended period. The role requires a Bachelor's in Education and a valid Colorado teaching license, with a permanent Colorado address.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Be able to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors and enforces conduct and behavior per policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, and records student performance and health.
  • Prepares educational outlines, objectives, and materials per curriculum guidelines.
  • Establishes and communicates clear lesson objectives.
  • Presents subject matter using varied teaching methods and technology.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups.
  • Prepares, administers, grades tests and reports grades using district software.
  • Prepares attendance and activity reports as required.
  • Communicates with parents, teachers, counselors, and admins to resolve issues.

Education

About This Job

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

What You'll Do
  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
  • Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.
What You’ll Need
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
