Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute teacher to cover for an absent teacher from 10/4/26 to 12/28/26. You will teach the standard-based curriculum and follow district-approved materials.

This temporary assignment requires a Bachelor’s in Education and a Colorado teaching license. You will counsel students, monitor behavior, assess progress, and communicate with families to support student achievement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
• Valid Colorado teaching license required; DPS may accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.
• Ability to implement standard-based curriculum and district-approved materials.

About This Job

This is a temporary assignment. Dates Needed: 10/4/26 - 12/28/26

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

What You\'ll Do

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students\' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students\' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

What You\’ll Need

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
