Job description

Teacher Intern Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Accurately demonstrates knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  2. Appropriately utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
  3. Communicates with and obtains feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  4. Comprehends the principles of student growth, development and learning and applies them correctly.
  5. Effectively utilizes student assessment techniques and procedures.
  6. Manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
  7. Recognizes student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
  8. Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate.
  9. Works well with administration to meet professional requirements and responsibilities.
  10. Works cooperatively with colleagues, parents, community members, supervisors, and administrators.
  11. Demonstrates a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information of students.
  12. Engages in self-development.
  13. Follows district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  14. Maintains behavior appropriate to performing and accomplishing assigned duties.
  15. Knows what to do to successfully complete assigned work.
  16. Projects overall concern for personal appearance as it relates to job performance.
  17. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  18. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  19. Guides independent study, enrichment work, remedial work, and makeup work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  20. Assists with such large group activities.
  21. Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information known about an individual student.
Additional Job Functions
  • Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the school and on field trips on vehicle used by the school.
  • Performs care-giving duties including, but not limited to toileting duties, feeding, pushing wheelchairs, and lifting/transferring students with special needs, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.
Education and Experience

Required

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Must be able to pass employment verification.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  4. Must successfully complete 18 college hours a year (C or better).
  5. Must be enrolled in an education program at a college or university.
  6. Transcripts and updated degree plans are required each year before being considered for rehire.
  7. Must be successful as a student intern as evaluated by the principal and cooperating teacher.
  8. Must obtain a NMPED license as both a Substitute Teacher and Instructional Assistant.
  9. Must be able to pass HB 128 background check and state and federal background check.
  10. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  11. Additional qualifications as may be appropriate for a specific position.
  12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
