Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION (SPED) TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students, and stakeholders. Under the direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor/administrator, and consistent with the Providence Public Schools’ vision and mission, the Special Education teacher will work in partnership with parents, students, and general education teachers to promote student achievement.
Additionally, the SPED Teacher will:
- Provide daily instruction based on the RI State Standards, the Providence Schools District Curriculum, and the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Implement, develop, and case manage students’ services and IEPs in accordance with State and Federal Regulations.

Education, Training, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in the applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
- RIDE Certification Requirements: Elementary Special Education Teacher, Grades 1-6
- ESL Certification Preferred
Description of Duties, Responsibilities, and Curricular Linkages:
- Administer district curriculum aligned with Rhode Island State Standards.
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in various settings, aligned with IEP goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and paraprofessionals using the co-teaching model, sharing planning and instructional responsibilities to create the least restrictive environment.
- Develop and implement IEPs within regulatory timelines.
- Complete quarterly progress reports per RI Regulations, ensuring IEP goals and objectives are met.
- Ensure all students have opportunities to learn in a supportive environment.
- Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused classroom environment.
- Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans as needed.
- Integrate technology into instruction and provide interventions as part of Response to Intervention processes.
- Implement scientifically-based instruction tailored to students’ academic, social, and behavioral needs.
- Monitor and report progress data for student goals.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local mandates in special education.
- Manage three-year re-evaluations for students with disabilities.
- Ensure free appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
- Participate in district and school professional development activities.
- Maintain digital portfolios and outcomes data for students, including pre-k experiences if applicable.
- Develop and deliver daily learning experiences aligned with RI Early Learning Standards for pre-k students, if applicable.
- Participate in Medicaid billing data input, web-based IEP system updates, and administrative data collection.
- Utilize positive behavioral supports and collaborate professionally with staff, parents, and community members.
- Create a classroom climate conducive to positive learning.
- Provide appropriate accommodations for assessments and other duties as assigned.
