Qualifications

• Must hold a valid New York State CTE Teaching Certification in Security Operations and Law Enforcement Services or a closely related certification OR be eligible to obtain the appropriate New York State certification.

Responsibilities

• Instructs criminal justice, law enforcement, public safety, and workplace readiness to prepare students for postsecondary education or careers.
• Teaches career and technical skills and employability skills.
• Covers citizenship, basic communication, and standards aligned with NYS Learning Standards.
• Plans and develops goals, objectives, curricula, and reports.
• Develops lesson plans and organizes class time for instruction, shop work, and cleanup.
• Demonstrates materials, equipment, and processes with models and instructional aids.
• Guides pupils in activity selection and performance.
• Provides instructions suitable to pupil needs and activity requirements.
• Instructs on safety precautions and safe operation of tools and equipment.
• Assists in material storage and usage to prevent loss.
• Maintains classroom conduct standards for a safe environment.
• Collaborates with academic teachers to integrate coursework.
• Establishes industry contacts for internship opportunities.
• Communicates pupil progress with employers, parents, and counselors.
• Identifies pupil needs and assists in problem solving.
• Encourages continued education and employment awareness through portfolios.
• Supervises pupil activities during the day.
• Attends meetings and participates in program advisory committee activities.
• May sponsor student and club activities.
• Assesses pupil performance and maintains records.
• Researches bid specs and requisitions materials within budget.

Annual Salary: $48,484 to $55,844 PLUS $2,000 Masters Stipend

Hours: 7:25 AM - 2:55 PM

Job Responsibilities

• The Criminal Justice Teacher provides instruction in criminal justice, law enforcement, public safety, and workplace readiness skills that prepare students for post-secondary education, training, and careers in the criminal justice field.
• Teaches Career and Technical skills and knowledge and employability skills to prepare students for the world of work or post-secondary education.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, in accordance with New York State Learning Standards, general elements of the course of study, as specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Participates in planning and developing goals, objectives, curricula, and reports.
• Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and cleanup activities can be accomplished with the allotted time.
• Demonstrates career and technical materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
• Guides pupils in selection and performance of appropriate activities.
• Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the pupil(s) and the requirements of the activities being performed.
• Instructs pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Assists in the control, storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
• Establishes and maintains standards of classroom pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.
• Collaborates with academic teachers to integrate academic coursework into career and technical curriculum.
• Establishes contacts with the business community to maintain industry standards and provide students with internship opportunities.
• Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual pupil progress as the need arises.
• Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude, and learning problems.
• Provides encouragement for continuation of formal education and assistance to pupils in employment awareness skills through development and maintenance of student portfolios.
• Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom program related activities during the assigned working day.
• Attends faculty meetings and works with Career and Technical Education Program Advisory Committee in the development and implementation of specific career and technical education programs.
• May share in the sponsorship of student activities and club activities.
• Assesses each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills and prepares progress reports and grades.
• Maintains accurate and complete student records.
• Researches and maintains bid specifications. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and parts as required, working under established budget and procedures.
