Anova Education seeks a Teacher Consultant/Resource Room Teacher at Thurston Elementary School. This full-time on-site role supports students with disabilities, coordinates SST processes and facilitates accommodations and program modifications with general education staff.

The candidate will write FAB/BIP plans, engage with community agencies, and maintain systematic data collection while ensuring culturally responsive practices and ESL support where needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in special education.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education (EI, LD, CI).
  • Three years of teaching experience, including at least two years with students with disabilities.
  • Understanding of SST process and state reading programs desired.
  • Evidence of highly qualified status per NCLB at interview.
  • State Board approval as a teacher consultant or eligibility to qualify.

Responsibilities

  • Understand SST process, general education interventions and coordination.
  • Work with students with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Serve as building contact person for community agencies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on accommodations and program modifications.
  • Write and implement FAB/BIP plans.
  • Support students in culturally diverse settings and with ESL needs.
  • Participate in student support groups and conduct home visits.
  • Maintain regular attendance and coordinate services for special education.

POSITION TITLE: Teacher Consultant/Resource Room Teacher
POSITION LOCATION: Thurston Elementary School
FTE: 1.0
SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule (AAEA)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.

  • Possess Masters Degree in special education for Teacher Consultant position.
  • Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education in one or more areas (EI, LD, and CI.).
  • Possess three years satisfactory teaching experience, including at least two years of teaching students with disabilities in a special education classroom
  • Understanding of SST process and coordination desired
  • Training and instructional experience with state recommended reading and specialized programs desired
  • Successful background and practice "consulting" with colleagues regarding program adaptations and modifications for students desired
  • Successful background and experience working in a culturally diverse environment with ESL students desired
  • Knowledge of/experience with special education due process procedures, writing of individual education plans and data collection desired
  • Must submit evidence at time of interview of highly qualified status as defined through NCLB
  • State Board of Education approval as a teacher consultant or able to qualify
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is a full time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
