Job summary

The State of Wisconsin seeks a Computer Software Teacher for Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility. This full-time role covers year-round instruction focused on keyboarding, computer applications, and computer literacy for persons in our care.

You will handle documentation, progress assessments, and behavior management, while supporting specialized instruction, staff training, and committee work as directed.

Job description

Introduction

The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Using evidence-based approaches, employees implement lasting change with a positive impact for the people of Wisconsin.The Division of Adult Institution is currently looking for a talented and motivated individual to fill a full-time Computer Software Teacher position. This position is based out of Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility (Racine, WI). Our teachers work 12 months per year.

Position Summary

This teacher will develop and implement a program of educational services specific to the assessed academic and/or vocational needs of Person in Our Care (PIOC). This position provides individual and group instruction in the areas of keyboarding, computer applications, and computer literacy.

The Teacher will complete, in a timely manner, all required documentation, student assessment/progress, and other reporting requirements. The teacher will monitor and manage student behavior, attend staffing meetings and serve on both school and institution committees as directed. The teacher will, upon request, provide training to other staff, interns, etc. and engage in specialized instruction and special projects.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04 with a starting pay rate of $31.01, plus excellent benefits. Qualified individuals may receive supplemental (add-on) pay adjustments for additional credits relevant to the position that are over and above the credits needed for certification. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Candidate must possess or be eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System as a Teacher of Computer Software, certification Number 103.

OR

A minimum of 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least 2 years of post‑secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to the date of appointment. Two years of post‑secondary teaching experience means 8 semesters of part‑time teaching or 4 semesters of full‑time teaching at an accredited post‑secondary degree granting institution.
