Job description

Introduction

The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Position Summary

The Education Director performs advanced professional supervisory oversight in providing student education, training and rehabilitation goals. This position provides direct supervision and educational leadership in the development and administration of comprehensive programs in academic, Wisconsin Technical College System’s (WTCS) career technical educational, Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Adult Basic Education (ABE), and Title 1 Transitional Services, as applicable. In addition, the Education Director directly supervises community living, which includes adult basic education, high school equivalency, post-secondary/career technical (vocation/industrial) education/training, and apprenticeships.

This position also supervises and evaluates assigned staff, to include Teachers, Librarians, and other educational and clerical support staff. This position also participates in performing various institution administrative duties and activities that include other correctional programs, multi-disciplinary staffing/teams, student on-the-job training, etc. This position implements Affimative Action/Civil Rights Compliance plan within areas of responsibility in compliance with Federal and State Laws.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-02 with a starting pay of $41.58/hour - $54.48/hour, plus excellent benefits. Supplemental pay up to $2.97/hour may be available for those with credits earned over and above those needed for basic certification. Additionally, employees at Green Bay Correctional Institution are eligible for a $5/hour add-on for all hours worked. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A two year career executive trial period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-Employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-Employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an educational related program (e.g. Teaching, content specialist with teaching minor, a technical trade that is instructed in DOC, Psychology with an instructional minor, etc.)
  • Experience teaching in a classroom or institution of higher education
  • Experience implementing and updating curriculum and/or educational programs
  • Experience performing supervision or lead worker related activities (e.g. assigning, directing, and/or evaluating work; disciplinary matters, hiring, providing training/mentoring, etc.).

In addition to the above, well qualified applicant will have:

  • A Master’s degree in Education or related field
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders on education matters and ensure effective utilization of other education program resources
