Description/Notes: High School Teacher/Head Basketball Coach. Seeking applicants for a High School Teacher/Head Basketball Coach. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences through classroom instruction to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Additionally, provide instruction to athletes to develop their skills, along with strength and conditioning needed to excel in basketball. This position is for someone willing to contribute to the educational program at La Grange ISD as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.

Qualifications:

1. Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
2. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements.
3. Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
4. Current first aid, CPR, and AED certificate.
5. Hold or the ability to secure a clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

1. Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
2. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
3. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
5. Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
6. Knowledge of UIL rules.

8. Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical.

Experience: 3-5 years coaching or participant experience in the sport assigned preferred.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
2. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and technology.
3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
4. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students.
5. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
6. Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
7. Create classroom environments conducive to learning.
8. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
9. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Coaching Responsibilities:

1. Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs of student athletes.
2. Manage and supervise athletic activities and practice sessions.
3. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities.
4. Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities.
5. Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
