Position: Teacher

The Teacher participates in planning and implementing a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate program for children, and assesses children’s progress in all areas of development.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain constant visual and auditory supervision of children indoors and outdoors.
  • Document and communicate observed behaviors and situations to the Lead Teacher or Assistant Director.
  • Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children’s progress, using available technology.
  • Follow health, safety, and housekeeping procedures; maintain an inviting classroom environment.
  • Provide child guidance and behavior management according to center policies.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.
  • Assist in preparation of materials, record-keeping, and other essential tasks.
  • Prepare progress reports and meet with parents periodically.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents, children, and colleagues.
  • Ensure the program meets the individual needs of each child, respecting cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • May supervise the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Follow agency directives and complete assigned tasks professionally and positively.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings, which may include evening hours.
  • Complete the required professional development hours annually and record them in the PQ Registry.
  • Work collaboratively as a team player.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality.
  • Possess the physical, mental, and emotional ability to perform job duties, including emergency evacuation, reading, hearing, speaking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • EEC Teacher certification with relevant education and experience:
  • BA in Early Childhood, with 6 months experience.
  • BA in a related field, with 2 early childhood courses and 1 year experience.
  • AA in Early Childhood, with 1 year experience.
  • CDA in Early Childhood, with 2 years experience.
  • High School diploma, with 3 early childhood courses and 3 years experience.
