Teacher - Autistic Support (Student Services)

Join to apply for the Teacher - Autistic Support (Student Services) role at Montgomery County Intermediate Unit.

A vacancy exists for an Autistic Support Teacher to work for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit in the Office of Student Services for the 2025-2026 school year. The role involves designing and implementing individualized instructional programs for students on the autism spectrum, creating a structured, supportive environment addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and transition needs. The teacher will collaborate with transition teachers, BCBA, related service specialists, personal care assistants, and program administrators to support student development and independence.

Qualifications
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education (PK-1) required
  • Strong background in behavior management and ABA principles
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving skills, and technological proficiency
  • Ability to work as part of a team, be courteous, and handle frequent interruptions
  • Capability to address children’s needs and behaviors, withstand emotional stress, and maintain a warm, helpful personality
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete tasks with minimal supervision, and perform basic reading, writing, and math
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and interact effectively with students
  • Current police, child abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances required
  • Clearance as an MA provider by the PA and federal government (conducted by MCIU upon hire)
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s needs and abilities
  • Deliver instruction in independent living, vocational, and social-emotional skills using evidence-based strategies
  • Foster communication, independence, and adaptive behaviors
  • Use data collection and assessment tools to monitor progress and adjust instruction
  • Provide behavioral support and implement PBIPs collaboratively with behavior specialists
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff
  • Communicate regularly with families
  • Create a structured, sensory-friendly classroom environment
  • Maintain accurate student records
Location

The position is based at the MCIU's Discovery Center in Lansdale, PA, serving children throughout Montgomery County. More info at: https://mciu.org/office-of-student-services/.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year).

Salary (2025-2026)
  • Bachelor’s, Step 1: $53,997/year
  • Master’s, Step 1: $65,007/year

Placement depends on experience and education beyond a Master’s degree.
