General Responsibilities:

The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Worker position is responsible for providing assistance to teachers and students in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioral, and social goals. This is a 12-month shared staff position with our Residential Treatment Facility working in the Residential Treatment Facility before and after school hours. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Worker is an active participant in Teaching Assistant and Clinical Services meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-to-one supervision of a child.
  • Coordinating work within the school, and the Residential Treatment Program.
  • Complying with operating policies and procedures established for the assigned function.
  • Maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.
  • Responsible for running groups and assisting students to problem solve and reinforce positive behavior.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology or related fields preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Top Skill(s):

  • Ability to facilitate social skills groups Proficient interpersonal relations and communication
  • Ability to participate in physical restraint of children
  • Knowledge of risk assessment protocol
  • Ability to lead small group academic instruction
  • Knowledge and understanding of socially and emotionally challenged children and/or children with autism.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is normally required.
