An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work on site.

Candidates for this position must be Highly Qualified through one of the following:

Have obtained an Associate's degree, or higher from a nationally or regionally accredited institution of higher education, documented through transcripts; OR

Completed a minimum of 48 college credits from a nationally or regionally accredited institution of higher education, documented through transcripts; OR

Passed the ParaPro assessment with a minimum score of 455. Documentation of test score must be submitted.

Essential Responsibilities - specific to this job

• Develops an understanding of each student’s English language proficiency
• Works with individual students or small groups at the direction of the teacher
• Maintains attendance and monitors cumulative attendance
• Works cooperatively with the teacher or substitute teacher in providing instruction and assistance to students
• Demonstrates an interest and understanding of world cultures, including the adjustment of students new to the country
• Acts as a role model for culturally appropriate etiquette and proper school behavior
• Assists the orienting of EL students to cultural differences by way of explanations concerning school procedures, schedule, etiquette, etc.
• Responsible for the supervision of students at all times, to include, but not limited to, providing coverage when the teacher is participating in planning, meetings, lunch, etc.
• Follows established procedures for monitoring student behavior when supervising small or large groups
• May participate in parent meetings as needed
• Prepares instructional materials at the direction of the teacher
• Assists with classroom management plan
• Actively assists students in dressing, toileting, braces, position, and with matters relating to personal hygiene, health-related services and emergency plans, as needed. In the event of toilet accidents, may be required to change and launder soiled clothing
• Maintains confidentiality of student information
• Attends required division-level professional learning specific to the role
• Acts as a role model for courtesy and proper school behavior.
