Job summary

The Right Place Early Learning Center in Hartford, CT is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in delivering a stimulating early childhood program. You will assist with lesson planning, day-to-day activities, health checks, and family communications, while contributing to a professional center environment.

Qualifications

  • Must develop positive relationships and communicate effectively with young children and their families.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must complete KeepSAfe and all other training requirements upon hire.
  • Must hold a current certificate in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent and a Child Development Credential (CDA). Candidates without a CDA must have experience working with young children and their families and an approved educational plan to attain a CDA or higher within an established period.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all required meetings, including orientation, team meetings, parent groups, and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all classroom procedures without the Lead/Head Teacher.
  • Assist in classroom management and administer children’s activities; engage in teacher-parent meetings and assist with center, department, and agency tasks.
  • Assist with all paperwork in the classroom, including attendance, nutrition, lesson plans, daily health checks, fire drill records, narratives, and daily notes.
  • Assist with planning and implementing curricula that address children's needs.
  • Maintain collaborative and team-oriented relationships to support agency cohesiveness.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate program needs.
  • Maintain professional attire and environment reflecting standards.
  • Observe and record physical and behavioral observations of children daily and assist with progress reports and goals.
  • Support efforts to obtain and maintain NAEYC accreditation standards.

Overview

Location: The Right Place Early Learning Center (Hartford, CT)

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full-time

Hours Per Week: 27.5

Schedule:Monday-Friday, 5.5 hours per day

Scope & Purpose of Position: To assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing a stimulating program of activities that contribute to the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of young children.

  • Contribute to agency cohesiveness by maintaining collaborative and team-oriented relationships.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate program needs.
  • Maintain appropriate business attire, manners, and environment reflective of professional standards.
  • Monitor and maintain the classroom environment, including cleanliness, organization, minor repairs, and health and safety components.
  • Observe and record physical and behavioral observations of children daily and assist with progress reports and goals.
  • Provides cooperation and assistance in obtaining and maintaining NAEYC accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for understanding personnel policies and procedures outlined in the staff and agency handbooks.
