Qualifications

• Requires at least 2 years of college coursework (48 semester hours) or an associate’s degree, or meeting a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment.
• Criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check required by state law.
• A satisfactory employment record.

Responsibilities

• Participate in professional development programs.
• Comply with district policies and procedures.
• Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning, including at least 30 minutes per week of instructional planning with the Certified Teacher.
• Model reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
• Assist students with language, reading, mathematics, and social skills under the guidance of a certified teacher.
• Monitor student work and report misunderstandings for immediate reteaching.
• Alert the certified teacher to special needs of individual children.
• Provide escort and assistance to students as needed (cafeteria, restroom, playground).
• Maintain awareness of hazards and safety conditions in the school environment.
• Maintain individual records of students and support educational displays.
• Assist in coaching physical activities to strengthen large motor skills.
• Perform other duties within the scope of this job as assigned by the Principal or Certified Teacher.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
