Job summary

Board of Education of Charles County is seeking an Instructional Assistant for a 10-month position. The role supports teachers and students across elementary to high school in instructional activities and reinforcement after instruction.

The position requires a high school diploma, experience with children, and strong communication and organizational skills to plan developmentally appropriate activities under the literacy teacher’s guidance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience working with children required.
• Ability to work in an instructional support role with students of various ages.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of developmental stages of children.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities under guidance.
• Must be at least 18 years old for elementary schools.
• Must be at least 18 and out of high school for 2+ years for middle/high schools.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher in planning instructional activities and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
• Works with individuals or small groups to provide instructional reinforcement after the teacher delivers the instruction.
• Assists the teacher in preparing for a lesson.
• Regular on-time attendance.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the principal.
• Required to provide substitute coverage as needed.
