Job summary

Johnston County Public Schools South Smithfield Elementary in Smithfield, NC is seeking a Teacher Assistant (HQ) to support classroom instruction and student supervision. The position is full-time with immediate starting date and duties spanning academic assistance, preparation, attendance, and behavior monitoring.

Responsibilities include giving group and individualized instruction, preparing materials, monitoring student progress, and reporting to the teacher.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; must meet Highly Qualified Status by having one of: (1) 2 or 4 year degree, (2) 48 Semester Hours, or (3) Pathways to TA Class with WorkKeys.
• Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
• Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provides individualized instruction.
• Delivers and checks student work; keeps students on task.
• Reports student progress to teacher.
• Arranges classroom furnishings and materials; prepares visual aids and duplicates materials.
• Serves as proctor during testing; scores papers; distributes and collects materials.
• Monitors student behavior and promotes positive conduct.
• Checks and reports attendance; enters data in health record; records behavior.
