Job summary

A children's healthcare provider is seeking a Teacher Assistant who helps in delivering developmentally appropriate education programs. Responsibilities include supporting the teacher in lesson planning and maintaining classroom records. The ideal candidate has an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and certification from the NY State Education Department. Qualifications

• Must possess Teacher Assistant Certification granted by the NY State Education Department.
• Experience working with children of various abilities & age groups required.
• 2 years Early Education classroom experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement goals established by the teacher to foster a challenging learning environment.
• Assist in lesson planning and maintaining classroom records.
• Ensure a safe environment following all health guidelines.
• Assists in activities that support self-help skills (feeding, toileting, dressing).
• Assists in preparing and maintaining records as required by regulation and/or the NY Bureau of Day Care and NYSED.
• Maintains and presents the classroom environment, rotating materials and decorations, ensuring a rich early childhood setting.
• Ensures a safe environment following infection control and universal precautions.
• Assists with safe arrival and departure of children and daily bus/transport duties.

Brief Description

Assists teacher in providing developmentally appropriate education programs that support the optimal growth and development of the students in the program. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

Essential Duties

• Implements the goals, procedures, and practices as established by the teacher to foster a challenging learning environment.
• Assists in the implementation of lesson plan and classroom routines.
• Assists in the selection and preparation of developmentally appropriate educational materials.
• Assists in the activities that support the development of self-help skills (feeding, toileting, & dressing).
• Assists teacher in preparing and maintaining all records and data as required by regulation and/or the Bureau of Day Care, NY State Education Department, NYC Department of Education.
• Assists in the care and presentation of the classroom environment to include cleaning toys and equipment, maintaining a rich early childhood environment by use of bulletin boards and classroom decorations, rotating toys and books, and investing in the overall classroom arrangement.
• Ensures a safe environment following all Infection control and universal precautions.
• Maintains professional boundaries with colleagues, system-wide staff, and families, and understands and appreciates the family’s choices and decisions with regard to their child.
• Facilitates the safe arrival and departure of children by assisting in busing and transport duties on a daily basis.

Non-essential Duties

• Participates in meeting and other assigned committees.
• Assists teacher with planning and preparing parties, field trips and graduation.
• Participates in shared departmental duties of preparing the school environment for daily activities including getting the meal cart, ordering supplies, putting away supplies.
• Provides coverage and direction in teacher’s absence as needed.

Requirements

• Formal education required: Two years of college or an Associate degree in early childhood education required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must possess Teacher Assistant Certification granted by the NY State Education Department.
• Previous experience required: Experience working with children of various abilities & age groups required.
• 2 years Early Education classroom experience preferred.
