Job summary

Easterseals Valhalla, in Valhalla, NY, is hiring a Teacher Assistant for a 10-month position with the option to extend into the summer (extended school year). You will support preschool classrooms, work with a Special Education Teacher, and help create a safe, warm learning environment in compliance with OCFS regulations and PBIS initiatives.

• Two (2) years practical experience working with children is preferred.

• Work under supervision of classroom teacher.
• Assist in caring for physical needs of children.
• Attend staffing, departmental in-service meetings as assigned.
• Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well maintained.
• Maintain professional ethics in the building and out, regarding the discussion of pupils, and their conditions.
• Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary.
• Assist with behavior management of children under the supervision of the classroom teacher as outlined by Program and Agency policies.
• Interact with children at all times in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate way, while encouraging self-help.
• Assist in child observation, records keeping, and assessment.

What You'll Do

As a Teacher Assistant you will work in our integrated and self contained preschool classrooms and collaborate with the Special Education Teacher to create a safe, warm and caring educational environment for our students. You will follow all OCFS regulations, follow schoolwide PBIS initiative, and collaborate with classroom staff, parents, education consultant, and administration.
