Job summary

Missouri Valley Community Action Agency (MVCAA) seeks a Teacher Assistant and Bus Monitor to support licensed teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children. The role focuses on safety, learning, and family engagement within MVCAA’s Head Start program.

Responsibilities include assisting with lesson plans, guiding volunteers, maintaining records, and coordinating with parent committees.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Willingness to earn a CDA within 18 months unless already credentialed.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive work environment and provide guidance to volunteers during children’s group sessions.
• Assist in developing and implementing lesson plans based on individual children’s developmental level, interests and learning goals.
• Maintain appropriate programmatic documentation in each child-family file and manage the classroom during the teacher’s temporary absence.
• Participate in scheduled center staff meetings and maintain confidentiality and reliable attendance.
• Provide information to parent committees on a regular basis and support family efforts to access community resources.
• Provide transition information and ensure the learning environment is developmentally appropriate.
• Observe, screen, assess, and document child progress and ensure children are released to authorized adults or the classroom teacher upon arrival.
• Share information with staff concerning enrolled children and families; recruit, train, and utilize volunteers and document contributions.
• Access community resources to extend learning opportunities with field trips and visitors.
• Identify personal professional growth needs and develop a plan to achieve them.
• Stay current in knowledge of child development by participating in training opportunities.

The Teacher Assistant assists the Teacher in implementing and planning developmentally appropriate individual activities in a safe, healthy learning environment.

This position promotes and provides opportunities to staff to embody the agency mission which is “To Engage Communities and Coordinate Resources to Improve the Lives of People Experiencing Poverty”. Program operation is designed around the mission, vision and values of the agency to meet both program and agency strategies and goals.

Essential Functions:

• Promote positive work environment Provide guidance to volunteers during children’s group sessions
• Maintain equipment and supplies used in classroom and on playground during group sessions Assist in the development and implementations lesson plans based on individual children’s developmental level, interests and learning goals

High School Diploma or GED is required. Applicant must also have a valid driver's license. Must be willing to earn a Child Development Associate Credential within 18 months of hire unless have a CDA credential.
