Responsibilities

  • Assist the ESE Teacher in implementing individual programs and daily lesson plans.
  • Follow the teacher’s directions in classroom activities.
  • Work with assigned activity groups on IEP goals and objectives.
  • Provide appropriate assistance to children and follow health and safety rules.
  • Assist with feeding programs and toileting training.
  • Help with toilet and hygiene routines for children.
  • Assist children with daily self-care tasks (tooth brushing, hand washing, dressing).
  • Supervise children during play and ensure safe handling and positioning.
  • Report behavioral or physical changes to the classroom teacher.

Education Level: High School

Salary Range: $19.00 - $19.00 Hourly

  1. Assist the ESE Teacher in implementing individual programs and carrying out daily lesson plans.
  2. Follows ESE Teacher’s directions in the classroom
  3. Works daily with assigned activity group on individual IEP goals and objectives.
  4. Provides appropriate assistance to children.
  5. Implements feeding programs and demonstrates proper techniques.
  6. Implements toileting training programs and changes children as needed.
  7. Assists children daily in tooth brushing, hand washing and dressing skills.
  8. Supervises children properly during playground and free play activity.
  9. Demonstrates proper carrying, handling and positioning of children.
  10. Allows children adequate time to perform.
  11. Reports any behavioral or physical changes in children to the classroom teacher.
  12. Follows through with planned activity during teacher’s absence.
  13. Removes/replaces children on or off the school bus at beginning and end of each day.

Provides for the physical order and cleanliness of Preschool area.

  1. Checks lesson plans daily and gets all materials ready.
  2. Participates in lunch time, clean-up, laundry responsibilities and classroom upkeep daily.
  3. Keeps dangerous/hazardous items out of the reach of children.
  4. Follows proper health and safety rules for toileting and changing children.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  1. High school diploma/GED.
  2. 40 hour child care certificate (within 1 year of hire).

  1. Must be able to effectively communicate in English (read, write and speak) with employees, peers,Supervisors, program participants and external stakeholders.
  2. Excellent administrative, clerical and organizational skills.
  3. Effective problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  4. Must have an understanding of diverse families and their needs and ways to support them; mustdemonstrate a reliable, punctual and stable working style and be able to work productively withindependent initiative.
  5. Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
Typical Physical, Mental and Emotional Demands

  1. Performs tasks requiring bending, lifting, squatting, and physical exertion of upper and lower body muscles.
  2. Performs multiple and/or continuous lifts and/or transfers of 50 pounds in safe and appropriate manner utilizing standard orientation techniques for up to six (6) hours a day.
  3. Must be able to see, hear and communicate effectively with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to handle stress of working with non-verbal, non-ambulatory clients who need assistance with most aspects of activities of daily living.
  5. Must be able to deal with offensive behavior, inappropriate or offensive remarks from individuals being served and their families in an appropriate manner.
  6. Must be able to separate personal issues and work issues and maintain decorum and self-control in dealing with individuals being served, their families and ASC staff.
