Job summary

Oregon Head Start Association is seeking an assistant to support the Teacher/Home Visitor in delivering a safe, engaging classroom experience for all children. Responsibilities include implementing lesson plans, preparing and cleaning the classroom, and assisting with daily routines and meals.

The role emphasizes positive child interactions, developmentally appropriate practices, and helping parents participate in the classroom, with a focus on safe environments and consistent routines.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• CDA credential preferred.
• Two years of paid experience, or a combination of related experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an orderly and physically/emotionally safe environment.
• Assist teacher with lesson plan implementation.
• Assist teacher with classroom preparation and clean up.
• Assist with breakdown of facility when necessary.
• Participate in daily classroom activities and routines, including field trips.
• Join the children for meals. Model social skills and good eating habits.
• Gently encourage trying new foods.
• Use positive interactions with children including verbal and body language.
• Use developmentally appropriate practices.
• Work to ensure good self-concept in all children.
• Help parents integrate into classroom.
• Model behavior management skills.

Classroom activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

3. 3. Two years of paid experience, or a combination of related experience and training.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1. 1. Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
2. 2. Oregon Food Handler’s card or ServSafe® Food Safety Certification within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
3. 3. Must be enrolled in the Oregon Department of Education-Child Care Division Central Background Registry at time of hire and update it as required.
4. 4. Health Appraisal within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
