Job summary

Oregon Head Start Association in Brookings, OR is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support infants, toddlers and preschoolers under Head Start standards. You will help maintain safe, engaging classroom environments and assist with daily activities and family outreach.

You will contribute to developmentally appropriate lessons, monitor attendance, and support children with diverse needs while collaborating with the teaching team to promote school readiness.

Qualifications

  • Must have or be actively working towards an Oregon Registry Step 7 or CDA credential.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; CDA/OR Registry preferred as noted in requirements.
  • Paid experience with infants/toddlers or preschool children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children at all times and maintain proper ratios and group sizes.
  • Support team with high-quality, responsive care and safe learning environments.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Ensure classrooms and materials meet age-appropriate and diverse needs.
  • Follow Head Start Performance Standards and program procedures.
  • Assist with lesson planning aligned to assessment data and school readiness goals.
  • Document daily attendance and assist with follow-up procedures as needed.
  • Provide services to children with IFSP/IEP when applicable.
  • Assist in screenings and assessments as assigned.
  • Cover Teacher duties in temporary absence when needed.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist team in the delivery of high-quality infant, toddler, and preschool services as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Rules, program work plans, and program goals. Assist with day-to-day operations of the classroom, serving children ages 6-weeks to five and their families. Maintain quality environments with attention to safety and health prevention measures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performance Indictors CLASSROOM/EDUCATION

  • Ensure children are supervised at all times and maintain appropriate ratios and group sizes.
  • Support team in providing high quality responsive care, effective teaching practices, and an organized learning environment, with positive guidance strategies to support social-emotional growth and development.
  • Support team in providing quality, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Support in ensuring all children spaces and materials are age-appropriate and responsive to interests, culturally and linguistically appropriate, and include accommodations to meet all children’s needs.
  • Possess and demonstrate strong working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, South Coast Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other regulations.
  • Support team in utilizing program curriculum to fidelity, which encompasses creating and implementing weekly lesson plans that incorporates group and individual goals based on assessment data and school readiness goals.
  • Track daily attendance for each child and implement program attendance follow-up procedures, as assigned.
  • Support team in delivery of appropriate services to children with IFSP/IEP’s.
  • Assist Teacher in completing screenings and assessments, as assigned.
  • Perform teacher job duties in the temporary absence of the Teacher Assistant.
  • Complete additional tasks and job duties, as assigned. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (in order of preference):
  • Current Infant/Toddler or Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) with direct experience teaching infant, toddler, or preschool children; or Oregon Registry Step 7 with direct experience teaching infant, toddler, or preschool children Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and would be required to be actively working towards an ORO Step 7 or enrolled in Infant/Toddler or Preschool Childhood Development Associate (CDA) credential. Additional competencies/preferences:
  • Paid experience working with infants/toddlers or preschool age children.
