Job summary

Laurel Nokomis School is seeking a Preschool/Child Care Aide to support daily learning activities, supervise students, and assist with meals and hygiene. A High School Diploma or equivalent and Florida child care credentials are required, with FCCPC, CDA, CCAC, ECPC, AA/AS degrees preferred.

Eligibility for Florida teaching certification is desirable. The position is 7.5 hours daily, 10 months, under supervision of certified staff.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Florida Child Care Credential.
  • Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC).
  • National Child Development Associate (CDA).
  • A Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate (CCAC).
  • An Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC).
  • AA/AS Degree in related field (or equivalent).
  • 60-hour equivalency or Para Pro Assessment Test.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising students as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and supervise children in activities.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Supervise outdoor activities.
  • Assist with meals and snacks.
  • Assist with personal hygiene tasks (diaper changing, toileting).
  • Build relationships with families where feasible.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist in creating a safe learning environment and with instructional materials.
  • Communicate effectively with staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Associate of Art (AA)/Associate of Science (AS) Degree
  • sixty (60) hour equivalent from an accredited educational institution or passing score on the Para Pro Assessment Test.
  • Bachelor of Art (BA)/Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE)/Child Development (preferred)
  • Eligible for Florida Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education, Prekindergarten, Elementary or Exceptional Student Education (preferred)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively

JOB GOAL: To perform routine tasks independently as assigned under the direction of a certified staff member.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the supervision of students as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and supervise children in all learning activities.
  • Plan for and provide developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Supervise outdoor activities.
  • Appraise student needs.
  • Assist in serving meals and snacks.
  • Assist children with personal hygiene, including diaper changing and toileting.
  • Establish, where feasible, relationships with families of students.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist in creating a safe learning environment.
  • Implement classroom activities as directed.
  • Assist staff members with behavioral management.
  • Assist with the development of instructional materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate records and reports.
  • Assist with assessing student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with staff.
  • Use specialized equipment as required.
  • Intervene, when appropriate, to situations concerning discipline of students.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions as required.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.

  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
