Job summary

People's Arc of Suffolk seeks a full-time childcare assistant to join our program in New York. The role supports teachers, attends to children's physical needs, and ensures a safe, clean classroom environment.

Responsibilities include implementing the education program, supervising students, and handling routine tasks with efficiency. A valid NYS driver’s license is preferred. Prior experience with children and a high school diploma are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• One year experience with children in a classroom or childcare setting preferred.
• Able to supervise children in multiple educational settings, including self-contained and integrated environments.
• Valid NYS driver's license at time of hire.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Work Schedule

Full‑time: Monday to Friday 8:15 am – 2:45 pm (30 hours week), on a 12‑month school year.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited high school or GED
• Minimum of one year experience working with children in a classroom or childcare environment (preferred)
• Experience working with children with special needs (preferred)
• Ability to supervise children in a variety of educational settings including, but not limited to, self‑contained and integrated environments
• Physically able to handle all aspects of supervision of day‑to‑day activities of students, including running, bending and lifting up to 25 lbs
• Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license at the time of hire
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
