Job summary

Caddo Community Action Agency, Inc. seeks an Assistant Teacher to support a warm, safe classroom for young children, assist in planning activities, and help maintain a calm learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean learning environment and in assuring the well‑being and safety of the children in his/her care.
• Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a soft voice, and encourages this attitude and voice in others working in the classroom.
• Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher and volunteers in planning and implementing classroom activities.
• Implements the individualized program plan for each child, which will offer specific help for the child in small group settings, based on assessments and observations.
• Plans with the teacher, and assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for the day’s activities.
• Shares in planning and implementation of written lesson plans with the teacher.
• Assures that every child shall be protected from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in the classroom.
• Observes children to detect signs of illness, injure, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance, learning disorders, speech problems or other special needs and report these finding to teacher immediately.
• Sitting with children during meals and snacks while eating the same type of meal as the children.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Teacher and Center Manager.
