POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides instruction to students enrolled in the Agriscience program. The Agricultural Science Teacher is responsible for educating students about various aspects of agriculture, including plant and animal science, agribusiness, environmental conservation, and agricultural mechanics. The role includes both classroom instruction and hands-on learning experiences, often integrating Future Farmers of America (FFA) activities. This position reports to the Principal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitates/coordinates a rigorous agricultural curriculum with career-related instruction; assesses and provides for differentiation to assure student progress.
  2. Integrates core content academics and embeds high quality literature, experiences and project-based learning assignments.
  3. Manages and maintains program assigned equipment, software, and supplies.
  4. Develops and implements lesson plans aligned with Georgia Performance Standards for Agricultural Education.
  5. Teaches subjects such as horticulture, animal science, agriscience, agribusiness, forestry, and agricultural mechanics.
  6. Supervises and supports students in Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects.
  7. Facilitates hands-on learning through school farms, greenhouses, or labs.
  8. Collaborates with local farmers, agribusinesses, and community organizations.
  9. Ensures student safety during lab work, fieldwork, and farm activities.
  10. Assesses student performance and provides feedback for academic growth.
  11. Advises and coordinates FFA activities, competitions, and leadership events.
  12. Stays updated on agricultural trends and integrates them into instruction.
  13. Attends professional development and maintains certification requirements.
  14. Sponsors/infuses co-curricular Future Farmers of America (FFA) career tech student organization (CTSO) experiences for the purpose of leadership development, advanced technical skills attainment, workforce readiness preparation, and college career-readiness.
  15. Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific formative/summative assessments, and industry-recognized technical skill assessments to evaluate students’ industry certification competency levels attainment and/or the monitoring and development of individual learning growth and student progress towards achieving Individual Graduation Plan’s (IGP) goals.
  16. Maintains professional development competence through ongoing educational and professional development training, as required for certification.
  17. Establishes and maintains industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage students’ participation in continuing education opportunities.
  18. Engages, conducts, and documents minutes of the local school CTAE Advisory Committee for the curriculum’s career-related activities support.
  19. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution in Agricultural Science or a GaPSC-determined equivalent required.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable full-time occupational work experience in the field preferred.
  3. Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.
  4. GaPSC certification at Level 4 or higher in related field required.
  5. Varied; supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required.
  6. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires communication with school administrative personnel.
  7. Requires regular, frequent contact with external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance (i.e. different constituencies: external agencies, parents, community, etc.).
  8. Excellent classroom management required. May be designated as a lead teacher or trainer.
  9. Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District.
  10. Normal classroom/school setting.
  11. Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day.
  12. Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
