Job summary

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Belmont County seeks an Education Teacher for Adult Basic Education/GED at Belmont Correctional Institution. You will develop lesson plans, deliver instruction, administer tests, and monitor inmate progress in a secure educational setting.

Hiring is full-time. Candidates should hold a Baccalaureate degree and an Adult Educator permit or be eligible for a four-year permit.

Qualifications

  • Applicants who possess a Baccalaureate degree & an Adult Educator four year permit and/or are eligible to receive a four-year permit from the Ohio Department of Education, may be considered.
  • Any current Teacher Certificate appropriate grade level to be assigned; Teacher 1, 71721, must also have baccalaureate degree or less;

Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individualized training for assignments
  • Provides necessary instruction for Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program

  • Attends education meetings, unit staff meetings and in-service training
  • Prepares required records and reports
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies and materials needed

Pre-Employment Drug Testing

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana.

Pre-Employment Background Investigation

The final applicant selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is prohibited from hiring:
