Penn Medicine Doylestown Health- Children’s Village is seeking a full-time early childhood educator. You will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum, supervise teachers and assistants, and partner with families to ensure smooth transitions for children.

Job Summary:

Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum in the classroom. Supervise and coach teachers and classroom assistants to ensure this purpose.



Accountabilities


  • 1. Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development through planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets recommended standards to ensure health, safety, and nutrition of children as reflected in the weekly lesson plans.

  • Meets NAEYC, DPW, and Keystone Star 4 standards for the classroom.

  • Keeps updated records regarding allergies, emergency contacts, etc.

  • Manages classroom budget effectively.

  • Oversees staff/child ratios to ensure proper staffing levels and keeps use of overtime to a minimum.

  • Provides leadership in curriculum implementation in the classroom.

  • Provides creative ideas that enrich the learning environment and /or curriculum.

  • 2. Create a learning environment based on children’s needs, interests, and abilities and one that is reflective of the children’s families and culture.

  • Anticipates and meets all identified objectives for children with special needs including implementation of IFSP’s and IEPs.

  • Provides creative ideas to enhance curriculum regularly or manage classroom more efficiently.

  • Serves in a leadership role related to curriculum or as a resource for classroom or center equipment issues. Conserves supplies and restocks classroom appropriately.

  • Initiates and/or champions new ideas, service or process improvements.

  • Networks with other teachers throughout the center to build extended opportunities for learning for the children.

  • Creates a welcoming environment for all internal and external customers.

  • Maintain and update classroom portfolios on an annual basis.

  • 3. Partner with families to create an open system of effective communication and to assist in making smooth transitions from home to the classroom and to demonstrate professional practices in all aspects of work.

  • Prepares and conducts parent conferences.

  • Implements a new or creative method for enhancing family communication or improving a safety issue.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service by anticipating and meeting the needs of children, families, and staff.

  • Manages time effectively to meet deadlines and complete tasks on time.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in daily schedule and responds to emerging needs of the center.

  • Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Anticipates the needs of others and meets those needs promptly, provides quick and effective responses to customer complaints.

  • Addresses problems with others directly for effective conflict resolution.

  • Conducts self in a respectful and professional manner through all interactions including listening, acknowledging others’ opinions, and diverting gossip.

  • Accepts and supports positive changes within the center or the hospital.

  • Through observation and interactions with the children record important information about the children.

  • Using checklists, anecdotal notes, running records, and/or frequency counts record a child’s behavior, interests, needs, etc. Record OUNCE and Work Sampling information in the ELN network as required 3 times a year.

  • 4. Supervise, train, evaluate, model and mentor staff and volunteers as needed.

  • Coaches or mentors other staff on anticipating and meeting the needs of children with special needs.

  • Supervises and coaches staff, volunteers, and service learning students.

  • Use conflict management skills to resolve problems or issues.

  • Recognized by peers and others as an effective team player.

  • Is a morale builder or role model.

  • Actively helps management implement change.

  • 5. Complete professional development plan annually with supervisor and credentialing required by Keystone Stars, NAEYC, and DPW. Support all Children’s Village activities, fundraising activities, and family events.

  • Supports hospital and center goals. Meets personal goals set with supervisor.

  • Participates and supports fundraising activities.

  • Demonstrates an awareness of the big picture of Doylestown Hospital’s financial stability and its relationship to the center.

  • Meets all 24 hours required training for DPW and Keystone Stars.

  • Attends all staff meetings and participates and assists at center special events.

  • Is a member of an education, professional organization.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization



Qualifications


  • Associate’s degree and 2 years 2 years of experience working with children required, early childhood classroom setting preferred.



Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications


  • Child Development Associate (CDA) preferred

  • Training time required once hired: attendance at hospital orientation, center orientation, and completion of all state‑mandated training programs; 3‑month introductory period required.
