  • Job Duties:This job posting is for Correctional Officer positions with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at any available units STATEWIDE. You only need to apply once and can select all the units you are interested in within this single application. In this role, you will supervise inmate work groups, prevent escapes, and maintain discipline according to strict rules and guidelines.
  • You would be a GOOD fit if:You graduated from an accredited senior high school or equivalent and have successfully completed an accredited TDCJ approved college Correctional Officer Training program or TDCJ Correctional Officer Pre-Service Training Academy. You would be a GREAT fit if:You have at least 13 months of full-time, wage-earning experience in corrections or law enforcement, including roles such as Correctional Officer, Supervisor of Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, or Jailer.You may also be a great fit if you have completed at least two years of active military service with an Honorable or General-Under Honorable discharge, verified by a DD214, or if you have earned an Associate's degree, or higher, from a CHEA-accredited college or university, verified by an official transcript or diploma. See below for the minimum qualifications for each Correctional Officer level:Correctional Officer I:Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GEDSuccessful completion of an accredited Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) approved college Correctional Officer Training program or TDCJ Correctional Officer Pre Service Training Academy.Correctional Officer II:Seven months full-time, wage-earning experience as a Correctional Officer, Supervisor of Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, Law Enforcement, or Jailer.Correctional Officer III:Level 1:Thirteen months full-time, wage-earning experience as a Correctional Officer, Supervisor or Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, Law Enforcement, or Jailer as verified by an acceptable employment reference; orAn Associate's degree earned from a college or university accredited from an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as verified by an official diploma or college transcript; orCompletion of 2 years of active military service with an Honorable, or General-Under Honorable Conditions, discharge as verified by a DD214.Level 2:Twenty-five months full-time, wage-earning experience as a Correctional Officer, Supervisor or Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, Law Enforcement, or Jailer as verified by an acceptable employment referenceLevel 3:Thirty-seven months full-time, wage-earning experience as a Correctional Officer, Supervisor or Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, Law Enforcement, or Jailer as verified by an acceptable employment reference.Senior Correctional Officer:Seventy-three months full-time, wage-earning experience as a Correctional Officer, Supervisor of Correctional Officers, Correctional Food Service Manager, Correctional Laundry Manager, Law Enforcement, or Jailer as verified by an acceptable employment reference; orA Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree earned from a college or university accredited from an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as verified by an official diploma or college transcript; orCompletion of 4 years of active military service with an Honorable, or General-Under Honorable Conditions, discharge as verified by a DD214.*Continued employment is contingent upon passing exams and skills tests* Additional Information:Retiree SalaryWill be 2.5% less than the posted salaryTravelNone - May make day trips, but no overnight tripsWork Site VisitsNoStudy MaterialNoPre-Service Training Academy RequiredYesHazardous Duty/Longevity PositionHazardousApply once annually for this position through this posting.
