Job summary

Tulsa County Assessor’s Office seeks an entry-level Taxpayer Services Clerk to interact with the public, provide ad valorem information, process exemptions, and perform clerical duties. Under supervision, you will resolve questions, enter data, and support office operations.

Spanish is helpful but not required, and strong communication is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is expected, with a readiness to work independently and in a team, sometimes outside normal hours.

Organization Taxpayer Services Pay $16.70 Pay Frequency Hourly Full Time / Part Time Full time

Full Time Job Summary Position Definition Under general supervision, this entry-level position interacts with the public to provide general and specific ad valorem information, process applications for exemptions, and perform general clerical duties in service to taxpayers. This job description may be updated at any time to accommodate evolving requirements and responsibilities of the Assessor’s Office. All Job Descriptions are approved as final by the Tulsa County Assessor or designee as of the listed revision date above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions of the position. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation, as applicable laws permit.

All Assessor Employees are expected to:

  • Work independently and in a team with tact, support, and cooperation for customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Be capable of effectively using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, assist in all functions of the office, and train co-workers.
  • Be aware that work may be occasionally required outside normal business hours, and time off may be discouraged during certain customer-support periods.

As this is a public office, and due to conflict of interest concerns, all employees of the Tulsa County Assessor’s Office must place any real estate license in an INACTIVE status while employed here, or as soon as any current transactions are completed.

Job Description Examples Of Work Performed
  • Listen to, and calmly, politely, and efficiently resolve customers’ issues and questions about ad valorem taxes on the phone or in person.
  • Effectively refer more complicated issues and questions to appropriate supervisors or departments.
  • Enter data, maintain electronic and paper files, scan documents, and perform general clerical duties.
  • Assist with cross-training, and all other functions of the office.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position may occasionally require work be done outside normal business hours.
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

Must be prompt, timely, and possess significant ability to listen to customer’s issues, then summarize, and present solutions. Learn, and operate various data processing software, Microsoft Excel and Word, and the Assessor’s website. Must be able to perform multiple tasks with high accuracy and attention to detail. Exercise tact, patience, and a sense of propriety and courtesy with customers and coworkers. Must be a strong verbal communicator. Must possess an aptitude for problem-solving. Must be supportive of colleagues with a responsible and conscientious work ethic. Spanish language skills – helpful, but not required.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend certain aspects of legal documents. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to taxpayers and other employees. Spanish language skills – helpful, but not required.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions with efficiency and effectiveness. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

Employee is regularly required to use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach. They are also required to talk and listen. The employee is required to independently move about. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

After completion of one year employment, employee will have the option to achieve Certificate of Advanced Accreditation as provided for in Title 68 O.S. §2816, at no cost.

Work Environment

The noise level is typical of an office environment and is low to moderate, but can be from multiple, overlapping sources during busy periods.
