Job summary

Tulsa County is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker at LaFortune to care for and repair county parks and facilities. Under supervision, performs tasks across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry and related maintenance duties.

This safety-sensitive role requires ability to perform heavy manual labor, operate equipment, and follow safety protocols; valid Oklahoma driver’s license and chemical handling knowledge are involved.

Qualifications

  • Completion of the eighth grade and over one year of experience in maintenance/ construction work.
  • Ability to understand instructions and perform heavy manual labor; operate equipment and read chemical labels.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semiskilled maintenance tasks in parks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry.
  • Lay water service pipes and clear clogged sewers.
  • Operate tractors with mowing attachments and light automotive equipment.
  • Paint facilities and repair fences.
  • Plant, trim, and remove ornamental plants and trees; spray landscape areas.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; assist in concrete work and site cleanup.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for the performance of manual, semiskilled and limited skilled work in the care, maintenance and repair of County parks and park facilities by performing the following duties.

Job Description

Safety-Sensitive Position: Yes (as defined under Oklahoma Statute Title 63 § 427.8) All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry and other tasks.
  • Lay water services pipes, opens clogged sewers.
  • Operate tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment.
  • Operate various types of power equipment and hand tools.
  • Paint facilities.
  • Repair fences.
  • Plant, maintain, trim and remove various types of ornamental plants, grasses, shrubs and trees.
  • Spray pesticides, herbicides, and water landscape areas,
  • Clean and maintain equipment and tools.
  • May provide routine maintenance on equipment; build forms for concrete work, mix and finish concrete; and perform manual cleanup of park area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of common practices, methods, tools and materials of varied, semiskilled maintenance construction work; of the hazards and safety precautions of the work; and of general park maintenance. Skill in operating tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment; in operating various types of power equipment and hand tools; and in operating chemical application equipment and in leading community service workers. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; to use hand and mechanical tools and equipment; to develop skill in assigned operations; to operate tractors and other light automotive equipment; and to read and understand chemical labels.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Completion of the eighth grade and over one year of experience as a laborer performing maintenance and/or construction work.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Oklahoma Driver's License possessed for at least 6 months Defensive driving with Tulsa County within 6 months of hire Oklahoma Chemical Technician License
