City of New York's Office of the Taxpayer Advocate seeks a Taxpayer Case Advocate to assist taxpayers with unresolved tax issues, identify systemic problems, and prepare reports for the Commissioner of Finance.

The role involves interviewing taxpayers, counseling on case issues, and coordinating with DOF offices to secure timely, fair resolutions while adhering to statutory criteria. Remote work is possible up to two days per week under the program.

Responsabilidades

• Interview taxpayers to determine tax situations and explain notices, bills, and DOF correspondence.
• Counsel taxpayers on basic case issues and advocate for them with DOF offices to resolve problems.
• Confer with taxpayers meeting advocacy criteria to provide explanations when cases cannot be resolved quickly.
• Perform research and computations to adjust taxpayers' accounts as needed.
• Explain actions taken, cite applicable law or procedure, and outline taxpayers' appeal rights.
