Job summary

ABIP CPAs & Advisors in Houston, TX seeks an experienced Tax Supervisor to support individual and business tax engagements end-to-end. The role involves preparing and reviewing returns, client communication, and tax planning with proactive advisory input.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in public accounting (preferably with a mid-sized firm).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax compliance for individuals and businesses.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and research tools: ProSystem fx, UltraTax, Drake, Lacerte, CCH Axcess (CCH preferred).
  • Working knowledge of tax forms, schedules, and basic tax planning concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take direction while owning assigned tasks.
  • Experience with tax planning for individuals and/or small businesses.
  • CPA certification required for Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and entities, including but not limited to:
  • Individual returns (1040) and related forms/schedules.
  • Partnerships/LLCs (e.g., 1065/K-1s), S-corporations (1120-S), and C-corporations (1120).
  • Client support for tax notices and document requests.
  • Perform tax compliance tasks including gathering and organizing client information, preparing workpapers, and maintaining return documentation.
  • Conduct research on tax issues (e.g., credits, deductions, basis, entity elections) and apply findings to returns.
  • Support tax planning and year-round advisory needs through proactive recommendations and collaboration with senior/manager staff.
  • Review prepared work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; identify issues and communicate them clearly.
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting internal deadlines and filing dates.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding data needs, status, and deliverables.
  • Assist with planning meetings, extensions, estimates, and tax projections as needed.
  • Coordinate with audit and accounting teams as applicable to ensure consistency across engagements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with firm procedures and professional standards.

ABIP is seeking an experienced Tax Supervisor to support individual and business tax engagements end-to-end. The ideal candidate will prepare and review tax returns, manage client communication, support tax planning, and ensure timely, accurate filings in accordance with applicable rules and firm standards.

We are open to considering those at a Supervisor or Manager level. CPA certification is required for Manager and Senior Manager roles.
