H&R Block, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to analyze financial information, prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, and entities, and provide guidance on tax planning. The candidate will work with federal and state tax laws, perform data validation, and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to accurate reporting and timely submissions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years accounting experience required.
  • 1+ year business tax/entity returns experience recommended.
  • GAAP knowledge required.
  • Proficiency with online accounting tools and spreadsheets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with bookkeeping software and data management.
  • Successful completion of applicable tax knowledge assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax statements, financial statements, and BAS statements on schedule.
  • Create and return statements and documents to clients by deadlines.
  • Prepare business income tax returns and statements for audits.
  • Handle tax administration tasks including research, return prep, and planning.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions/credits.
  • Maintain client relationships and regular communication.
  • Stay current with federal/state tax laws and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with month/quarter/year-end analyses and data validation.
  • Process interfaces and ensure data accuracy across subsystems.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members as needed.

Job description

About the Role

Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and prepare corporate entity and partnership returns. Preparing personal and business income tax returns and statements for audits. Prepares, submits, and manages tax statements and returns for businesses and clients. Provides advice on financial and tax matters and should have an in-dept knowledge of the regulations, laws and acts that govern the process. Mentor and guide peers through knowledge transfer and skill development. Foster and enhance continuous improvement initiatives. Accurately process various forms of financial information and materials, ensuring compliance with relevant reporting requirements.

  • Prepare tax statements, financial statements, and BAS statements at required intervals
  • Create and return statements and documents to clients by set deadlines
  • Preparing business income tax returns and statements for audits
  • Manage tax administration responsibilities required of assigned accounts include tax code research, tax return preparation, and tax planning
  • Identifying opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions and credits.
  • Engage regularly with clients and maintain strong relationships
  • Stay current with knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulatory and compliance requirements, and tax planning techniques. Regularly research financial landscape and market trends
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis of accounts for assigned lines of business. Validate the accuracy of data from subsystems
  • Process subsystems or subsidiary interfaces. Validate the accuracy and completeness of the interfaced data. Perform follow up and resolution of determined issues
  • Provides guidance and assistance to Associate Tax Strategists as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ accounting experience
  • Minimum of 1 year business tax/entity returns experience
  • Experience with GAAP - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Mid-level Knowledge of integrated online accounting applications
  • Mid-level Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Mid-level Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Capable to handle multiple tasks and project simultaneously
  • Expert Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Mid-level familiarity with bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, and database management. Ability to adapt to new tools and automation
  • Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment, Income Tax Course or Equivalent and Tax Accountant Assessment
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Client Services experience
  • Ability to complete assigned projects on time with minimal supervision
  • Ability to correctly interpret and apply complex instructions, policies and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mid-level Experience with PeopleSoft general ledger and query preferred
  • Mid-level knowledge of tax law and statutory regulations
