Job summary

H&R Block is seeking a Tax Accountant to analyze financial information and prepare corporate and partnership tax returns, statements for audits, and related reports. You will provide guidance on federal/state tax laws and assist with tax planning for clients and accounts.

The role requires at least 2 years of accounting and 1 year of business tax/entity returns experience, along with strong communication skills and knowledge of GAAP.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax statements, financial statements, and BAS statements at required intervals
  • Create and return statements and documents to clients by set deadlines
  • Preparing business income tax returns and statements for audits
  • Manage tax administration responsibilities required of assigned accounts include tax code research, tax return preparation, and tax planning
  • Identifying opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions and credits
  • Engage regularly with clients and maintain strong relationships
  • Stay current with knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulatory and compliance requirements, and tax planning techniques
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis of accounts for assigned lines of business
  • Validate the accuracy of data from subsystems
  • Process subsystems or subsidiary interfaces. Validate the accuracy and completeness of the interfaced data
  • Provides guidance and assistance to Associate Tax Strategists as needed

About The Role

Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and prepare corporate entity and partnership returns. Preparing personal and business income tax returns and statements for audits. Prepares, submits, and manages tax statements and returns for businesses and clients. Provides advice on financial and tax matters and should have an in-dept knowledge of the regulations, laws and acts that govern the process. Mentor and guide peers through knowledge transfer and skill development. Foster and enhance continuous improvement initiatives. Accurately process various forms of financial information and materials, ensuring compliance with relevant reporting requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ accounting experience
  • Minimum of 1 year business tax/entity returns experience
  • Experience with GAAP - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Mid-level Knowledge of integrated online accounting applications
  • Mid-level Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Mid-level Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Capable to handle multiple tasks and project simultaneously
  • Expert Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Mid-level familiarity with bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, and database management. Ability to adapt to new tools and automation
  • Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment, Income Tax Course or Equivalent and Tax Accountant Assessment
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Client Services experience
  • Ability to complete assigned projects on time with minimal supervision
  • Ability to correctly interpret and apply complex instructions, policies and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mid-level Experience with PeopleSoft general ledger and query preferred
  • Mid-level knowledge of tax law and statutory regulations

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed.
