Job summary

Thompson Greenspon in Fairfax, Virginia, is seeking a Tax Staff Accountant to join our growing team. You’ll prepare federal and multistate returns, identify planning opportunities, and be a primary client contact in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Work is hybrid with three in-office days weekly in Fairfax. You’ll gain exposure to diverse clients, receive ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunity for advancement within a well-established CPA firm.

Qualifications

• 2 years of public accounting experience in a CPA firm
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
• Completion of 150 credit hours OR plans to meet CPA eligibility requirements
• Active PTIN, or ability to obtain one prior to start date

Responsibilities

• Prepare federal and multistate tax returns for individuals, partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, nonprofits, and trusts and estates
• Identify tax planning opportunities and conduct research to support client needs
• Build and maintain strong client relationships as a primary point of contact
• Manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines
• Collaborate with team members to communicate project status
• Deliver high-quality work within time budgets

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing federal and multistate tax returns for individuals, partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, nonprofits, and trust and estates
• Identifying tax planning opportunities and conducting research to support client needs
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships as a primary point of contact
• Managing multiple client engagements simultaneously and meeting deadlines efficiently
• Collaborating with team members to ensure project status is communicated effectively
• Delivering high-quality work while staying mindful of time budgets

Qualified candidates will have:

• 2 years of public accounting experience in a CPA firm
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting
• Completion of 150 credit hours OR plans to meet CPA eligibility requirements
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
• A proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume environment
