Description Of Job

If you love numbers, you may want to look into our Taxation Division Team! The Taxation Division promotes voluntary compliance with all tax laws through information, education, assistance and customer service. The Call Center serves over 200,000 customers each year.

What We Do

The Call Center employs representatives trained to address citizens’ tax related inquiries ranging in diversity from sales and marijuana excise tax to wage withholding and income tax. We're hiring a customer service oriented individual with accounting knowledge to be our Tax Examiner I in the Taxpayer Service Call Center!

The Typical Day Of a Tax Examiner I

Our customer focused representatives become highly skilled, trained professionals after receiving up to four months of onsite, comprehensive orientation and training. These employees learn many key aspects of the role of serving as Tax Examiners. For example, instructing taxpayers on completion of applicable forms and documents; making determinations of appropriate tax collection procedures and making authorizations or denials of refunds or assessments. Moreover, the Tax Examiner provides the public with information regarding tax statutes, department policies, procedures and positions on taxes administered by the department by telephone, web messages and issuance of letters.

Our work culture is based on teamwork, accountability, dependability and career growth. In fact, our best employees are excellent communicators, team players, have prior tax accounting experience, and are tech savvy!

As a Call Center Team Member You Will
  • Educate inbound callers over the phone on specific and ambiguous tax issues administered by the Department of Revenue when the callers are uncertain about Colorado statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze and understand complex issues affecting their tax accounts in a fast-paced environment while also communicating the situation clearly and effectively in a way that the caller can understand.
  • Assist callers with exceptional customer service in utilizing the Department of Revenue or related entity’s websites, tax software, or service portals to file returns, submit payments, access tax information, and many other activities.
  • Learn and adapt to changes in statutes, policies and procedures on a frequent basis while being able to also facilitate the resolution of taxpayer account issues in accordance with the state statutes and policies.

These positions are in training for approximately 3 weeks. Examiners may be required to report to the Denver office at 1351 5th St, Denver, CO 80204 for the duration of the training. Once the training has been successfully completed, unless there are circumstances that prevent it, the examiner is expected to move to the work from home environment with occasional requirement to travel to the Denver office.
