Job summary

Orionplacement in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a senior tax practice leader with an active CPA license and 10+ years of progressive public accounting or tax advisory experience. You will shape service offerings, drive growth, and lead a high-performing tax team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

You will manage complex engagements, guide strategic client advisement, and ensure exceptional standards while partnering with executives to scale the tax practice.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax advisory, or a closely related professional services environment.
• 5+ years of tax leadership, team management, or practice leadership experience.
• Proven success building, launching, scaling, or significantly growing a tax practice or service line.
• Deep expertise in business and individual tax compliance, tax planning, and tax advisory.
• Strong knowledge of entity structuring, pass-through taxation, and transactional tax matters.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision and lead the continued buildout and growth of our tax services practice.
• Define service offerings, delivery standards, pricing approaches, workflows, staffing needs, and long-term practice priorities.
• Develop and execute a multi-year growth roadmap encompassing client growth, revenue objectives, team expansion, and additional service opportunities.
• Lead high-level tax strategy and planning engagements for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and mid-market organizations.
• Oversee business and individual tax compliance, estimates, filings, planning, and advisory work while maintaining exceptional technical and quality standards.
• Advise clients on entity structuring, pass-through taxation, transactions, acquisitions, partnerships, and other significant business events.
• Build trusted executive-level relationships with clients and become a key strategic advisor in their financial decision-making.
• Recruit, lead, mentor, and retain CPAs, tax managers, advisors, and support professionals as the practice grows.
• Establish clear performance expectations, technical standards, training programs, review processes, and career development pathways.
• Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and introduce additional tax advisory services that deliver measurable value.
• Implement scalable technology, systems, workflows, and AI-enabled tools that improve research, efficiency, compliance, and client service.
• Maintain strong regulatory, professional, ethical, and quality-control standards across the tax practice.
• Stay ahead of tax law, IRS guidance, and industry developments and translate changes into practical strategies for clients and the team.
• Partner with executive leadership and other internal teams to deliver integrated solutions and support the broader growth of the organization.
