We are seeking a detail-driven and experienced Tax Supervisor to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is ideal for a tax professional who excels at leading teams, reviewing complex tax filings, and building strong client relationships. The Tax Supervisor will oversee compliance and planning across a range of tax engagements and serve as a key mentor to junior staff.
Supervise and review preparation of federal, state (especially Michigan), and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and individuals
Manage tax engagements from start to finish, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines
Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients across various industries
Research and resolve complex tax issues; prepare technical memos as needed
Train, supervise, and mentor junior staff and senior associates
Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, gather information, and provide updates
Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and keep up with legislative changes affecting clients
Assist with IRS and state tax audits, including Michigan Department of Treasury matters
Collaborate with partners and firm leadership on client strategies and business development
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s in Taxation preferred)
CPA certification required
3–6 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a public accounting firm
Strong understanding of federal and Michigan state tax regulations
Experience with tax software (e.g., ProSystem fx, CCH Axcess, or similar)
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities
Experience with Michigan corporate income tax, sales/use tax, and flow-through entity taxation
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
Ability to manage multiple client relationships and complex projects simultaneously
Industry experience in manufacturing, professional services, or real estate is a plus
