Position SummaryThe Tax Preparation Specialist plays a critical role preparing tax filings and required disclosure statements, researching and documenting issues related to tax returns, and assisting management with tax planning initiatives. Reporting directly to the Tax Manager, the Tax Preparation Specialist will be an integral part of a small team with the goal of delivering excellent service to individual, business and partnership clients. Expertise will be developed with both nonprofit and for-profit returns. To enhance work/life balance, the firm work schedule provides every other Friday off.Key ResponsibilitiesTax PreparationMaintain tax preparation priorities, deliverables, and deadlinesPrepare personal, business and partnership returns.Work with efficiency and effectiveness.Work independently or as part of a teamTrain on and adapt to different processes and methodsDuties include but are not limited to workpaper write-ups, obtaining and saving client documents, journal entries, and some bookkeeping.Other ResponsibilitiesProvide supporting documentation for auditsAssist with month-end closingUpdate and reconcile the sub-ledger to the general ledgerDevelop and maintain best practices.Recommend process improvements and support implementation of accounting system upgrades.Ensure compliance with accounting, tax and regulatory requirements.Other job-related projects as requested by the Tax Manager or CFO.QualificationsAssociate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 5 years relevant experience.Minimum of 3 years of tax accounting experience preferredStrong knowledge of GAAP and both for-profit and nonprofit tax principles.Proficiency with tax preparation software such as Lacerte and accounting software (Odoo, Sage, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar) and advanced Google Sheets/Excel skills.Commitment to integrity, accuracy, clarity, tact and confidentiality.Preferred Skills and ExperiencePrior experience in nonprofit and small business accounting.Experience in a multi-entity or consolidated accounting environment.Why join usYou'll work with organzations that are doing meaningful work in their communities, on a close team that values clear communication and taking great care of clients.Equal Opprtunity EmployerLegacy Offices is an equal opportunity employer.
