We are a boutique tax, accounting, and administrative practice serving business owners, high-net-worth families, nonprofits, and the trusts and entities that hold their wealth. We prepare 706s, 709s, 1041s, 1040s, 1065s, 1120-S, 1120-C, and 990s, and we handle IRS mitigation work — transcripts, amended returns, penalty abatement, installment agreements, offers in compromise. We need a Tax Manager who owns that production line end to end: the calendar, the review, the preparers, and the quality of what goes out the door under a signature. You will work alongside an attorney who handles the legal questions. You own the tax work. This position calls for a proactive, self-directed professional who anticipates needs, sets priorities independently, and keeps work moving without day-to-day direction. What you will ownThe filing calendar. Every return, extension, and deadline across individual, business, fiduciary, estate, gift, and exempt-organization filings — and the backward-planning that keeps March from becoming a fire.Technical review. Second-level review of every return before it reaches a client. You catch the error; the client never sees it.Signature. You sign as paid preparer on the returns you review (except for those returns under an attorney's review), and you decide when a return is not ready to sign. The Preparers. Direct supervision of the Tax Preparation Specialist and any seasonal preparers — assigning work, setting the standard, reviewing output, and developing people past their current ceiling.Client contact. Intake meetings, scope and quote conversations, draft-return walkthroughs, and the follow-up that gets documents in the door before the deadline instead of after it.IRS mitigation. Transcript analysis, amended returns, reasonable-cause and first-time abatement letters, Forms 2848, 9465, and 433-A, and representation before the Service within the scope of your credential. The system. Our tax workflows, checklists, and templates are written down. You are expected to find what is wrong with them and fix it — then make the team actually follow the corrected version.Escalation. You recognize the question that belongs to the attorney and route it the same day, with the issue framed and the authority already pulled. What a strong first year looks likeNo return goes out with an error a reviewer should have caught.Nothing is extended because we ran out of time. Extensions are a client decision, not a capacity failure. The preparer under you is measurably better in April than in January. You have improved at least three things about how the practice runs without being asked to.What we are actually looking forTwo traits, and we need both. Most candidates have one.Initiative. You see work and take it. You raise problems early with a proposed answer attached. You do not wait for a meeting to start something that could have started yesterday.Precision. You are the person who notices that the form number changed, that the schedule letter is wrong, that the carryforward does not tie. You check the instruction rather than remembering what it used to say.People who are fast are usually loose. People who are exact are usually slow. If you are both, you already know it, and you have probably been frustrated working for people who are neither.CredentialsEnrolled Agent preferred. CPA welcome. We are not screening for the CPA — we are screening for someone with unlimited representation rights before the IRS and the judgment to use them.Active PTIN, or eligibility to obtain one before your start date.Experience preparing and reviewing returns across multiple entity types, including at least two filing seasons of review responsibility over someone else’s work.Hands-on with professional tax software. We run Lacerte; fluency in a comparable package transfers.Comfortable in a multi-entity environment where the same family may hold a dozen entities, trusts, and a private foundation.Nice to haveForm 706 and Form 709 experience. Few candidates have it; we will train the right person.Form 990 and exempt-organization work, including donor-advised fund sponsors and private foundations.IRS controversy and collections experience.Experience in a law-firm-adjacent or integrated professional services setting. What we offerBenefits: health, CPE and license reimbursement, PTO.Every-other-Friday-off schedule (applies during tax season IF work is up-to-date and deadlines are met.Work that is genuinely varied: a 706 one week, a foundation’s 990 the next, an offer in compromise after that.Direct access to the firm’s principals. Small shop, no layers. Why join usYou'll work with organizations that are doing meaningful work in their communities, on a close team that values clear communication and taking good care of clients.Equal Opportunity EmployerLegacy Offices is an equal opportunity employer.
