Job summary

Arizona Department of Revenue seeks an Apprentice Attorney to join the Tax Policy Unit in Phoenix. The 24-month ALAP helps qualified applicants gain admission to practice law without supervision while delivering legal services for TPT, municipal taxes and excise tax matters.

You will prepare rulings, advisories, and statutory language, with in-office requirement once per week and possible remote work within Arizona. A JD and bar eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (J.D.) or equivalent
• Bar admission in good standing within applicable timeframe
• Experience in tax law or government advisory role preferred
• Ability to conduct legal research and draft formal opinions

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation on Transaction Privilege Tax, Municipal Privilege Tax and Excise Tax.
• Draft information letters, private taxpayer rulings, notices, procedures and rules.
• Research and propose statutory changes; draft administrative rules and department web content.
• Assist with research, analysis and recommendations on complex tax matters.
• Support department-wide legal needs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
