Job summary

NYC Department of Finance's Legal Affairs Division seeks a Tax Attorney Intern to assist the Tax Law Unit. Work with experienced attorneys, research tax laws, draft memoranda, and prepare arguments for conferences and hearings. Training and practical experience in DOF’s tax matters will be provided.

The role offers exposure to real property taxes, business income and excise taxes, and regulatory work, with potential remote work up to two days per week under the agency's pilot program.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a US law school or admission to NY State Bar.
• Interest in public service and tax work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and research abilities.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze tax law issues and prepare legal memoranda.
• Assist in drafting rulings and guidance on tax matters.
• Support DOF in conferences, hearings, and litigation preparation.
• Provide legal counsel to DOF staff and respond to information requests.
