Schneider Downs & Co., Inc. in Columbus, OH is seeking a Tax Manager – Trust, Estate & Gift to oversee fiduciary, gift and estate tax returns and select individual income tax work.

You will lead client meetings on compliance and planning, mentor staff, and collaborate with leadership to win new engagements. The role supports a hybrid work model with options to work remotely within driving distance of clients and offices.

Qualifications

• Must have CPA, JD/LLM or Master in Taxation (EA ok in lieu of CPA).
• Minimum 5 years public accounting tax experience.
• 1041 experience required; 709/706/1040 preferred but not required.
• Strong client relationships, leadership and mentoring abilities.

Job description

Tax Manager – Trust, Estate & Gift (1041, 706, 709)

As a Tax Manager – Trust, Estate & Gift (1041, 706, 709), you will provide high-level reviews and manage fiduciary, gift and estate tax returns as well as select individual income tax returns. You will participate in client meetings on compliance and consulting projects related to tax planning opportunities and the tax implications for the client. You will manage the development of staff and seniors. You will also maintain relationships with a diverse client base in various industries and assist firm leadership in identifying new opportunities and assist in obtaining new engagements.

What You'll Do

Compliance and Review

• Manage a portfolio of fiduciary income tax returns, gift tax returns, estate tax returns, and select individual income tax returns
• Review tax returns done by staff and make recommendations on return preparation regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and working knowledge of tax and workflow software
• Manage engagement workflow, engagement team resources and engagement billing tax software

Advisory Services

• Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues and tax implications
• Provide wealth planning advice, and help clients make informed, strategic decisions relevant to their tax and estate planning needs
• Stay informed of current and proposed tax legislation, communicating potential impacts to clients and assist with planning

People Development

• Provide leadership, counseling and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team
• Work as part of a coordinated client service approach, working with other practice units to provide industry knowledge and insight to clients in a variety of industries

Operational Excellence

• Review engagement profitability and prepare and analyze monthly billing for assigned engagements
• Ensure firm technology is being applied where appropriate

Firm Advancement

• Work as a team on internal initiatives that promote firm growth, culture, technical tax content development and technological advances

What You'll Need

• CPA, J.D., LL.M., or Master's in Taxation required; Enrolled Agent (EA) credential accepted in lieu of a CPA
• Minimum of five (5) years of public accounting experience providing tax planning services and/or preparing and reviewing client work papers and income tax returns
• 1041 experience is required; 709, 706 and 1040 experienced is preferred, but not required
• Ability to foster client relationships
• Strong leadership, training and mentoring skills
• Excellent writing, communication and tax research skills
• Desire to embrace and leverage technology
