Distinct | North America in Warrington, PA is seeking a Tax Manager with a strong nonprofit background to join the team. You will review nonprofit returns, manage client relationships, and act as a primary contact for nonprofit organisations, including Form 990s.
The firm offers hybrid working with a flexible schedule and does not require rigid office days, allowing time for personal commitments. A pathway to partnership may be possible based on performance and firm needs.
Often in public accounting, the more senior you become, the more of your life you're expected to give up.
More responsibility, more clients, more hours.
But surely the whole point of getting good at something is that eventually you should have a bit more control over how you spend your time?
That's something this Warrington CPA firm understands.
They're a team of around 40 people, and they're looking for a Tax Manager with a strong nonprofit background to join them.
And the working hours are probably what caught my attention first.
35 hours a week outside busy season.
Around 40 during September and October, and then 55 to 60 for approximately 8 weeks during the main busy season.
It's still public accounting, and there are always going to be times when things get busy. But for a good chunk of the year, you'll actually have your evenings back.
The flexibility is another big part of it.
They offer hybrid working and don't have a rigid expectation around office days. You'll need to be close enough to Warrington to meet clients and spend time with the team when needed, but otherwise you're trusted to manage your own schedule.
As for the work itself, nonprofit clients make up a significant part of the practice.
You’ll be reviewing returns, managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact for nonprofit organisations, so you’ll need to be confident with Form 990s. If you’ve worked with 990PFs as well, that’s a big plus.
You’ll also have exposure to family owned businesses, manufacturing, insurance and service companies, which keeps things interesting.
The firm is growing, and they're thinking about the next generation of leadership.
Some of the current Partners won't be there forever, so there's an opportunity for someone to come in, build relationships and potentially work towards Partnership over time.
But that's an opportunity, not an expectation.
You can be ambitious without wanting your name above the door.
Ultimately, I think this is a good opportunity for someone who likes the technical side of nonprofit tax, enjoys having their own clients and wants to work somewhere that recognises their experience without expecting their entire life to revolve around the office.
If that sounds like you, I’d be happy to tell you more.
