A well-established and growing public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead complex tax engagements, advise clients, and develop members of the tax team.

The Tax Manager will manage a diverse portfolio that may include closely held businesses, partnerships, S corporations, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong public accounting experience who can independently manage engagements, review complex returns, identify planning opportunities, and build trusted long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage federal, state, and local tax compliance engagements for businesses and individuals.
- Review complex partnership, S corporation, C corporation, individual, trust, estate, and nonprofit tax returns.
- Provide year-round tax planning and strategic advisory services to business owners and high-net-worth clients.
- Research complex tax matters and translate technical guidance into practical recommendations.
- Identify tax-saving opportunities, available credits, entity-structure improvements, and risk-mitigation strategies.
- Advise clients on business formation, transactions, succession planning, cash flow, and wealth-preservation strategies.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of clients.
- Manage engagements from initial planning and budgeting through final delivery and billing.
- Review work prepared by associates and senior accountants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Coach, mentor, and develop tax professionals while providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Monitor engagement deadlines, workloads, budgets, realization, and profitability.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on client retention, process improvement, and practice growth.
- Remain current on changes to federal, state, and local tax laws.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Active CPA license required.
- Current or recent public accounting experience required.
- At least 7 years of progressive tax experience, including experience reviewing complex returns.
- Previous experience managing client engagements and supervising tax professionals.
- Strong knowledge of federal and multistate taxation.
- Experience serving closely held businesses, partnerships, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide proactive tax planning and advisory services.
- Strong technical research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with partnership taxation and complex ownership structures.
- Exposure to trust, estate, gift, or succession planning.
- Experience serving clients in industries such as real estate, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, franchising, professional services, retail, or nonprofit organizations.
- Familiarity with tax credits, multistate filings, and international reporting requirements.
- Experience managing engagement economics, including budgets, realization, and billing.
- Master’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Business Administration.
