A global alternative investment firm with extensive experience across credit, real estate, mortgage finance, and structured investments is seeking a Tax Provision Manager. The organization operates through an integrated investment platform covering asset-based lending, residential and commercial real estate finance, mortgage-related assets, and structured credit. Its operating model combines investment management and direct asset-level expertise to create value for investors and shareholders.
Position Overview
The Tax Provision Manager will be responsible for managing the company’s consolidated income tax provision and related tax reporting activities. Key responsibilities include quarterly and annual tax provision preparation, return-to-provision analysis, internal control and SOX compliance, and supporting federal and state tax compliance. The position will also contribute to tax forecasting, planning, modeling, and the evaluation of tax implications associated with corporate transactions and strategic initiatives.
This position reports directly to the Tax Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review the company’s consolidated quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including effective tax rate calculations, deferred tax schedules, journal entries, supporting documentation, workpapers, and related SOX/internal control requirements.
- Complete and review annual return-to-provision analyses, including reconciliation of federal and state tax returns to the applicable prior-year tax provision and assessment of resulting deferred tax and journal entry adjustments.
- Assist with federal and state corporate income tax compliance, including preparation and review of tax return workpapers, income tax returns, extensions, estimated tax calculations, and coordination with outside tax advisors.
- Partner with the broader tax organization to forecast cash tax requirements and assess the tax consequences of current and proposed business initiatives.
- Support tax due diligence and transaction analysis related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, restructurings, and other significant corporate transactions.
- Monitor developments in federal, foreign, state, and local tax legislation, regulations, accounting methods, judicial decisions, and other changes that may affect the organization.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
- CPA certification is required.
- Seven or more years of relevant income tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department. A combination of public accounting and experience with a large public company is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740, with experience preparing and reviewing complex consolidated quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including deferred taxes, effective tax rate reconciliations, return-to-provision calculations, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, and related tax footnote disclosures.
- Experience with public company tax reporting and SOX compliance, including the design, execution, and documentation of internal controls.
- Experience with corporate federal and state income tax compliance, including consolidated and combined tax returns.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to analyze and manage large volumes of financial and tax data. Experience with tax provision software is preferred.
- Strong tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while taking ownership of assigned projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical tax matters to both tax and non-tax professionals and collaborate effectively across accounting, finance, legal, and business teams.
